Frontier Utilities is encouraging customers to remain on high alert as local utilities continue to see a rise in utility service disconnection scams across Texas.
Criminals are using door-to-door, phone call and text message scams to collect payment information. There have been reports of individuals impersonating utility employees and asking to check electric meters at customers’ homes as well as spoofing company phone numbers to threaten service disconnection.
Your local utility will never call you to demand immediate payment via phone to avoid disconnection. Additionally, your local utility would never ask you to make a payment with a pre-paid debit card, gift card, cryptocurrency, or any third-party digital payment mobile app. All utility technicians and contractors will have a company badge to display when performing work.
Report any suspected utility disconnection fraud to your local utility provider. You can also report the scam to your local police through their non-emergency telephone number.
If you need to verify your electricity account status, you may access the Frontier App or MyAccount portal online 24/7. You can also speak with one of our Customer Care agents during normal business hours.
You should not send money in any form until your account status has been verified.
